02a277 GB. 1917, Poste Des Allies Baarle-Duc handstamp on cover posted on arrival in London. Note on cover says from a Belgian enclave in Netherlands, but I can find nothing on this -- info welcome. [The following information was very kindly provided by one of my customers in response to my note in the description. Collectors' willingness to share information is one of the strengths -- and joys -- of our hobby. I quote verbatim from his e-mail: "Baarle-Duc or Baarle Hertog is a Belgian village about 10km inside the Netherlands. After the Belgian army was defeated, many of the Belgian soldiers fled into the Netherlands and were interned. Some of them were able to reach Baarle Hertog, beyond the reach of the Dutch and spent the rest of the war there. It seems that they spent their time producing philatelic items, because many Belgian war items have cancellations from Baarle Duc (civilian) and military cancels also referring to Baarle Duc. It is of course unusual to find place names in military cancels, and it is another indication of the philatelic intent of the sender."] $70
